What is a rent guarantor, and why do I need one?

Put simply, a rent guarantor is someone who legally takes responsibility for your rent if you are unable to pay.

Having a rent guarantor is a proven and trustworthy way to increase your UK renting options. At Housing Hand, our mission is to make renting easier by providing a UK guarantor to everyone who doesn’t have one.

Having a guarantor proves to landlords and accommodation providers that you can meet rent and bill requirements, especially in cases where you haven’t had a chance to build up a favourable credit score yet or have a poor credit history.

How does it work?

Find your new accommodation
Before you start your guarantor application, we will need details of your accommodation. So, if you haven’t found it yet, you can use our free House Finder service to get started.
Get your guarantor
Apply today and follow our easy step-by step guide. It only takes a few minutes and you’ll be even closer to moving into your new rental property.
Move in
We keep it nice and simple. Once you’re in, you can pay our fee by splitting it over 6 or 12 months and we stand as your guarantor for the length of your tenancy.

How much does it cost?

When you complete your application, you will be asked to pay a small onboarding fee of £20. This allows us to complete your ID verification checks on you and your co signer. You then won’t need to pay a penny more until you move in. (Unless you choose to pay upfront!)

Before you apply, make sure you have:

Proof of ID This can be a passport, drivers license or a national ID document.


Proof of study for students A correspondence from University, UCAS form or a Student ID.

 

Proof of income for professionals The last 3 months worth of payslips or bank statements showing your income.

 

Co-signer details This is someone we can get in touch with if we can’t contact you. They can’t be an existing Housing Hand customer.
